New oil storage facility
On Tuesday 21 September an agreement was signed between Tórbjørn Jacobsen, mayor of Runavík Municipality, and Janus Thomsen CEO of the Faroese energy company Effo.
The agreement entails that Effo will build a new oil storage facility in the village Søldarfjørður, and that Runavík Municipality will fill and level the area beneath the storage facility — around 6,000 square metres.
The original oil storage tanks were built during World War II and they will nevertheless remain standing; they are protected as war memorials.
