United States Coast Guard visits
On Wednesday, 26 August, the Port of Runavík welcomed representatives from Landsverk, the Faroe Islands Police and the United States Coast Guard.
The purpose of the visit was to strengthen relations and cooperation with Faroese partners on matters related to the United States.
The representatives from the United States Coast Guard showed particular interest in American cruise passengers visiting the destinations operated by the Port of Runavík. These include both the main port, King’s Harbour, and the villages of Funningur, Elduvík, Oyndarfjørður and Rituvík, where expedition cruise ships anchor and passengers are brought ashore by zodiacs.
The guests were given a tour of the port area, and as Holland America Line’s cruise ship Rotterdam was alongside that day, they also had the opportunity to see how security arrangements on the quayside are organised when cruise ships call at the Port of Runavík.
A total of 7,102 American cruise passengers have visited the Port of Runavík so far in 2026. On this particular day, around 1,200 American guests were travelling aboard Rotterdam.
