The subsea tunnel will open on December 19th

December 04, 2020

The large subsea tunnel, Eysturoyartunnilin, will be opened for public traffic on Saturday December 19th 2020, ahead of schedule. It will take only 12 minutes to drive from Runavík to Tórshavn through the new tunnel.

The subsea tunnel is 11,2 kilometer long and features the first undersea roundabout to be constructed in the Atlantic Ocean. The Faroese artist, Tróndur Patursson, has created an 80 m tall piece beaming out blue lights to sit in the centre of the roundabout.

Together with the new extended quayside, the tunnel will provide new opportunities not only for the Port of Runavík but for the whole area.
