This year's last call
Spitsbergen from Hurtigruten was the last ship to call the Port of Runavík this year. The ship anchored outside Elduvík early Sunday morning and the 138 cruise guests came ashore in zodiacs at the small harbour outside the village.
It was a fantastic day and a wonderful experience for both locals and cruise guests.
The village Elduvík is one of Port of Runavík’s expedition cruise destinations. The main port, King’s Harbour in Runavík, can accommodate ships of all sizes but six years ago the port started opening some exclusive destinations for small and expedition ships. These destinations are the villages Elduvík and Funningur. The first ship will call the village Oyndarfjørður in 2026 and the plan is to develop and open up three more villages in the future.
The maximum number of allowed calls is 3 ships a year to each of the small villages.
These special visits are organized as sosial sustainable projects where the benefit goes to the locals and the local community. The Port of Runavík has, together with Visit Runavik, developed this special product for expedition ships in cooperation with local inhabitants.
This cruise year has been more busy than ever at the Port of Runavík with 24 calls in total, 18 calls to our main port in Runavík where the ships come alongside, 3 to Elduvík and 3 to Funningur where the ships anchor outside the villages.
Thank you Hurtigruten and also a huge thanks to all the cruise lines that have called our destinations this year.
