The Port of Runavík is well known as being particularly safe and well protected. There is no need for an alternative port because the weather conditions are always good on the fjord. Cruise ships dock at Kongshavn, which translates to King’s Harbour. History tells us that both the King of Denmark and even earlier the vikings used this harbour because it was the safest in the Faroe Islands.
The Port of Runavík is situated in the heart of Faroe Islands in the southern part of the island Eysturoy. Eysturoy is connected with subsea tunnels to Norðuroyggjar (20 minutes from Runavík to Klaksvík) and in 2020 to Tórshavn (12 minutes from Runavík to Tórshavn).
Runavík is a splendid cruise destination with short distances to most attractions in the Faroes. The destination offers unique experiences in an unspoiled area where tourism still is rare and very limited.
The construction of the longest tunnel in the Faroe Islands, 11 kilometers will finish in 2020. The subsea tunnel will shorten the travel distance from Runavík to the capital Tórshavn from 55 km to only 17 km. This will provide new opportunities for excursions from the Port of Runavík.
