Faroe Islands

The Faroe Islands are situated in the Atlantic Ocean about midway between Norway, Scotland and Iceland.

The islands cover an area of 1399 km2. Out of the 18 islands 17 are inhabited. The distance from north to south is 113 km and from east to west 75 km.

The sea never freezes over. The average temperature is about 3 degrees Celsius in the winter and 11 in the summer. The temperature is quite high considering the high latitude. It can get surprisingly hot in sheltered places.

The population of the Faroe Islands is about 48.000 – 50.000.
